Former AC Milan defender Taribo West believes the Super Eagles are fully set to begin their packed June fixtures after the team earned a 2-2 draw against Mexico on Friday in a high-profile international friendly game played in Houston, Texas, USA.
African champions Nigeria and 10-man Mexico settled for a 2-2 draw in a game watched by over 62,000 fans.
"If the Eagles can put up such a performance against a big team like Mexico, it means we can be confident that they will claim maximum points when they play Kenya and Namibia in the World Cup qualifiers.
"The new boys in the team gave their best and I believe with the guidance of the senior players, the Eagles will win their World Cup qualifiers and give a good account of themselves in the Confederations Cup in Brazil," the former Eagles centre-back said.
Javier Hernandez hit the bar in the 10th minute after he beat Austin Ejide in goal for the Eagles from six yards before the Manchester United forward put his side through in the 21st minute.
Brown Ideye, who had a goal ruled offside after being put through by John Ogu in the 17th minute, converted a penalty after left-back Elderson Echiejile's goal-bound shot was handled by a Mexican defender.
Ogu made it 2-1 for Nigeria when his 20-yard left-footed shot was deflected into the net in the 40th minute before Nnamdi Oduamadi's effort in the 63rd minute hit the bar.
Hernandez completed his brace — his 36th goal in 46 games for Mexico — in the 70th minute when he tapped in from close range to ensure the game ended in a draw, like it happened in their last meeting six years ago.
