Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC) in Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Pedro Ideba, says the agency has impounded three trucks loaded with adulterated petroleum products and arrested nine suspects.
Addressing journalists yesterday in Uyo, the state capital, Ideba said the suspects were arrested following a tip-off.
He said that two of the three trucks impounded behind the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) mega station were loaded with adulterated DPK popularly called kerosene while the third loaded with diesel was impounded at the Champion Brewery along Aka Road, Uyo.
Ideba said: "The two trucks were loaded with Kerosene (DPK) and adulterated product with some other chemicals and were going to supply to Julius Berger Plc in Uyo.
"We also impounded a tanker loaded with adulterated petroleum product suspected to be diesel on Aka Road in Uyo.
"Through a tip-off, our men impounded the three trucks and nine men in connection with the incident."
The NSCDC boss said that the suspects would be arraigned in court after investigation.
Ideba, however, recalled that NSCDC sealed one filling station at Ibiakpan in Ikot EKpene Local Government Area of the state last month.
He said: "We sealed the filling station and recovered some pumping machines, generators and the owner of the filling station, on sighting our men, jumped through the fence and escaped".
Ideba added that NSCDC arrested the filling station's guard and he is assisting in investigation.
He urged members of the public to be vigilant and report suspicious characters to law enforcement agency nearest to them.
