Rebel - Someone who exhibits great independence in thought and action
Fela Anikulapo Kuti, Bob Marley Majek Fashek - these are a few names that have shown remarkable independence in thought and action, through their songs and music. Chocolate City‘s Jesse Jagz seems to also be towing that line.
The talented rapper-singer-producer’s last big project was his debut album ‘Jagz of All Trades‘ in 2009 and even though he’s be buzzing behind the studio console producing some big tunes (like Ice Prince’s ‘Oleku‘), Jagz seemed to have fallen off the grid.
But now he’s back – but with a new ‘revolutionary’ state of mind and genre, dropping his Hip-Hop and Pop style for the Reggae-Ragga feel, seemingly inspired by the late Bob Marley.
Jesse is also quite a talker on Twitter ‘Listening to marley.. .. Music is for our emotional satisfaction. It has to have essence or an ideal or it won’t stand the test of time‘, he says.
‘The labour of our heroes past’.. What labour? What heroes? Lol.. We still dont have a history. Christianity and islam aren’t african culture and tradition. Did we ever have our own prophecies? We’ll never know. Fela.. A lot of pop artistes have fela to thank for their lingo n style now. He was way ahead of his time..’, he goes on and on…
Here’s his new video to the socially conscious single titled ‘Murder Dem‘ directed by MEX. Watch below…
