Worried by the state of the Nigerian aviation sector, especially the recent Associated Airline aircraft crash in Lagos, former Special Adviser to President Olusegun Obasanjo on National Assembly Matters, Senator Florence Ita-Giwa, has sought for urgent overhauling of the aviation sector to avert similar occurrences in the future.
Senator Ita-Giwa, in a statement made available to journalists in Lagos, said that the tragic event that preceded the burial of the former governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Agagu, has left her dumbfounded and at a complete loss as to the timing and reason for such a calamity.
"I have had cause to comment about the state of affairs in the aviation sector. Having once survived an air mishap years ago in Calabar, while I also note that there have been positive improvements in the infrastructure of our aviation facilities in recent times, it is my hope that the authorities will take a holistic look at systems, procedures and the development on human capital in this sector. This way we may once and for all banish the occurrence of air disasters in Nigeria," she advised.
