Abuja – The All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) says the Federal Government has a responsibility to ensure that the needs of the weak, poor among Nigerians are well catered for.
This is contained in a statement signed by the National Secretary of the party, Mr Emma Eneukwu, on Thursday in Abuja.
The statement said the ANPP National Chairman, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, stated this in New Jersey, USA, where he received the certificate of incorporation of the United States of America’s chapter party.
The certificate was presented to the Onu by the protem Chairman, Chief Mike Amuzie.
Onu said that the government needed to provide the conducive environment for Nigerians to develop their talents to the fullest.
He stressed the need for all Nigerians citizens to show commitment toward nation building as equal stakeholders.
“We believe that the greatness of our nation should be measured by how well we look after the weak, the disadvantaged and the poor among us, as it will boost these groups’ self-confidence as equal stakeholders in the country.
“We will not rest until the ANPP is turned around and working with other opposition political parties to form government at the centre for the good of our people and the greatness of our nation,'' he said.
According to him, ANPP will not support bad governance as it pursues issues and ideas-driven such that Nigerians will once more be one people in one nation.
“We believe in a stable, united, peaceful and prosperous country. We do not support violence in any form. We want all Nigerians to be below the law such that no Nigerian can be above the law.
“We believe that no Nigerian home should have anyone who is unable to read or write.
“We believe that the primary responsibility of government is to provide security for its citizens such that Nigerians should be able to go to bed with their eyes closed.''
He stressed the need for the government to ensure that justice exists in the nation as there was nexus between peace, justice and prosperity.
According to him, Nigeria is well endowed as there are highly gifted individuals
He said that the root of Nigeria's political problems was inability to conduct free and fair elections and lack of fiscal federalism.
“For our country to realise its potential and win the admiration and respect of other nations, Nigerians living at home and abroad must come together, think together and work together for the common good." (NAN)
