Movement for Fundamental Change (MFC), a pressure group comprising social crusaders and activists from all walks of life across the six geo-political zones of the country, had pledged to usher in a genuine social rebirth of Nigeria and stop the tide of an occupied country in permanent siege by the ruling elites.
MFC, parading notable activists like Femi Falana (SAN), Achike Chude, Bamidele Aturu, Femi Aborishade, Remi Sonaiya, among others, observed at their inaugural meeting in Lagos, that 53 years of nation building in Nigeria was an exercise in collapse of institutions, failed leadership and systemic disorderliness.
In a communiqué jointly signed by Chairman, Steering Committee, Adegboyega Adeniji and Martin Onovo, Chairman Communiqué Committee, the group said MFC shall be constructed as a broad-based alternative platform for people's power to build a grassroots mass oriented movement for fundamental change in Nigeria.
The session resolved to organise, change and replace what it described as the current degenerate, illegitimate and corrupt political leadership in Nigeria, while also rejecting the anti-poor policies of total privatisation, such as sale of the people's collective patrimony, gross under-funding of education, collapse of social infrastructure, calling for the provision of social security.
MFC resolved to reclaim all the social fighting mass organisations like the labour, peasants, farmers and youths/students movements as necessary stakeholders to control the destiny of our country, using instruments of the law to end social violation of people's rights, rule of impunity and unbridled corruption in the country.
To achieve its objectives, MFC hopes to be funded by all affiliated groups and individuals to develop its organisational capacity, pledging to continue with the commitment of its affiliates until fundamental change is achieved in Nigeria.
