LEADER of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Mr. Moses Onor, and five other members of Onyadama in Obubra Local Government have been arrested by the police in Calabar in connection with the June 2 communal conflict.
Five persons were reportedly killed and 70 houses destroyed during the attack on Inyima in Yakurr LGA of the state by suspected natives of Onyadama.
Onor, who represents Obubra 11 constituency, was arrested last Thursday, alongside the community leaders following a petition by the people of Inyima.
Our correspondent gathered on Monday that Onor, now in detention at the state police headquarters, was alleged to have sponsored the conflict.
Spokesman for the police in the state, Mr. John Umoh, said the arrest of Onor and others was to enable the police to get to the root of the conflict.
"The attendant killings which have become worrisome have to stop. So, we may not release those arrested in a hurry," he said.
