Sunshine Stars have parted ways with coach Samuel Abimbola following a poor run of the Akure side in the Nigeria Professional Football League this season.

Abimbola, a former Gateway coach and Flying Eagles assistant coach, joined the Akure Gunners this season following the departure of coach Gbenga Ogunbote.

The club are 12th in the log with 21 points from 15 games.

An official of the team informed The PUNCH that Abimbola's inability to work with other staff members of the club prompted the Ondo State Football Agency to advise him to resign last week, but he ignored the advice.

But head of the technical committee of the ODSFA, Akin Akinbobola, said on Tuesday that Abimbola's sacking was as a result of the team's poor performance in the league.

He said the club would soon name a new coach but assistant coach, Napoleon Aluma, is expected to take charge of the team until then.

"The present position of Sunshine Stars is not the dream of the state. The technical committee saw it wise to part company with the head coach of the team," Akinbobola said.

"I announce that with immediate effect, Samuel Abimbola seizes to be the coach of Sunshine Stars.

"Napoleon Aluma will temporarily take charge until the appointment of a new coach and efforts to appoint new coach are in progress."

Akinbobola added that the team's technical staff would have their salaries cut by 50 per cent.
