The Lagos State Police Command has arrested the dealer of the firecrackers which caused a fire in Jankara Market, Lagos.

The owner of the goods was arrested on Sunday, our correspondent learnt.

The suspect is currently being detained at the Area A Command, Lagos Island.

Our correspondent learnt that the dealer also had some other warehouses in the area which had been sealed.

The  spokesperson for the state police command, Ngozi Braide, confirmed the incident to our correspondent on the telephone on Wednesday.

However, Braide did not disclose the identity of the suspect, adding that discreet investigation was ongoing.

"The owner of the firecrackers has indeed been arrested but I cannot disclose his identity at this time. Investigations are ongoing but once they have been concluded, the identity of the person will be revealed and he will be charged accordingly," she said.

PUNCH Metro had reported on Wednesday that fire had gutted a make-shift warehouse located at 45 Ojo Giwa Street where a stockpile of firecrackers was kept.

The wanton destruction which accompanied the fire reportedly left one person dead and about 40 others injured.
