The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Umaru Manko, has assured Lagosians that crime rate would be on speedy decline in 2013.
A statement on Thursday by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media, Mr. Hakeem Bello, said Manko spoke after the State Security Counci meeting chaired by Governor Babatunde Fashola at the Lagos House, Marina.
Manko, who insisted that crime rate had been on the decline since 2012, said security agencies in the state were ready to ensure that Lagos remained a safe place for the residents.
He urged the residents to support security agencies in the New Year to enable them provide quality security service to the people.
The commissioner said, “The Yuletide was crime free in Lagos because all the security agencies were out during the festivities.
“So in 2013, the security agencies with the support of the government and the public would do everything to ensure that Lagos remains a peaceful place for all who are engaged in lawful business.
“The government has made very huge investments in security and the dividends of that investment is this peace we are witnessing.”
He appealed to the residents to be more security conscious and alert security agencies, especially the police, on on 767 or 112 if they notice anything or anyone suspicious.
Manko said, “We want to solicit for that support so that together we should be able to make Lagos very free and safe this year.”
Among those who were present at the meeting were the Lagos Director of the State Security Service, Mr. Achu Olayi; Commander 9 Brigade, Ikeja Cantonment, Brig-Gen. Pat Aken; Commanding Officer, NNS Beecroft Apapa, Navy Commodore Martins Njoku; Commander 435 Base Services Group, Ikeja, Air Commodore Sunday Wukangha; and Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Security, Major Tunde Panox (retd).
