RESUMPTION of work after the New Year holiday was marked by low turnout in public offices in Benin, Edo State; Asaba, Delta State and Lokoja, Kogi State on Wednesday.

However,  a majority of civil servants in Abeokuta, Ilorin and Osogbo reported for duties.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, a few federal and state civil servants reported to work in Benin and Asaba.

NAN correspondents reports that although the gates to the premises were opened, only a handful of workers resumed duties at 9am in Benin.

Controller of the Federal Ministry of Labour in Edo, Mr. Christopher Morka, appealed to government to provide working materials to enhance their productivity.

NAN reports that most of the offices were still locked at about 9am in Asaba.

Some of the workers, who reported for work, said they would go back home early because they did not have much work on their desks.

They said the week had gone half way and more workers would resume work to do.

At the gate of the Osun State Secretariat in  Abere, many workers were seen going into the secretariat in readiness to begin work.

In Abeokuta, Ogun state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Yusuph Olaniyonu, told the workers to redouble their efforts.

Meanwhile, Kwara State Governor Abdulfatah  Ahmed  says his administration has no plan to retrench workers.

Ahmed, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Abdulwahab Oba, said his administration would create job opportunities during the year.

The governor said, "I want to assure Kwarans that government is determined to creating more youth entrepreneurs, produce high quality middle level manpower through policies such as the International Vocational Centre."
