Nigeria at 52: Bishop appeals to Nigerians to heed God's warnings
Aug 30th 2012, 14:37

Abuja -  Rt. Rev. Duke Akamisoko, the Bishop of Kubwa Anglican Diocese, Abuja, has pleaded with Nigerians to heed the warnings of God's true prophets as the nation prepares to mark its 52nd  independence anniversary.

Akamisoko gave the advice in a statement issued on Thursday and signed by Venerable Foluso Taiwo, the Director of Communication, Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion.

“We have an option to listen to God's true prophets, take their warnings seriously and obey them or to continue to sin with impunity and earn the terrible wrath of God almighty,'' the statement said.

It said the current situation in the country was similar to that of 8th century BC, during the time of the prophets of the Old Testament.

The statement noted that 8th century prophets such as Amos, Hosea, Micah, and Isaiah, prophesied in situations and circumstances that were similar to the present day Nigeria.

“The issues that confronted them are the issues confronting the Nigerian people of today.''

It added that “God is interested in the affairs of Nigeria and desires to heal and restore Nigeria to a place of honour, glory and prestige among the nations of the world''.

The statement expressed the hope that the country, its leaders and the citizens would listen to God and repent. (NAN)
