Forty-two- year-old Adetoke Ibidapo of 13 Adekunle Street in Ikeja area of Lagos has told the court how her husband of 15 years suddenly turned her into a punching bag for no tenable excuse.
According to Adetoke, who is a retired teacher, her husband Gbade is having extramarital affairs with a lady she claims is using supernatural power on him. "Ever since he started seeing Bunmi the daughter of a popular Buka operator in Agege, our lives had never been the same. Everything I do gets him angry. He doesn't eat at home anymore and he doesn't even have sex with me anymore.
Every little opportunity he has, he beats me up and calls me all sorts of names. This situation has been on for about two years now, and all attempts to bring things back to normal have proved abortive.
All his family members are against him and have done all in their power to settle the situation, but he has refused to yield. I know his new attitude is not normal because the girl's mother is known for her superstitious and fetish lifestyle. All I want from this court is to grant me divorce so I can go about my life peacefully.
I cannot at this age continue being battered and bruised by my husband. I will also plead with the president to grant me custody of our two children, aged 11 and 14 respectively," she said.
Forty-five –year-old Gbade, an accountant on the other hand said he is no longer interested in the marriage and will want the union dissolved. He, however, denied beating his wife and having extramarital affairs with another woman. "I am no longer interested in the union; I want the marriage dissolved. There was never a time I touched or hurt her. She is just lying. She can keep the children if she wants or whatever the court decides is okay by me," he said. After listening to both parties, the case was adjourned to November 25, 2013 for possible judgment.
