The All Progressives Congress on Saturday dismissed claims by the ruling Peoples Democratic Party in Cross River State that it would continue to win all elective positions in the state.

Chairman of the state PDP, Mr. John Okon, had on Friday, during an empowerment programme in Akamkpa Local Government Area, said the emergence of the APC would not stop his party from winning elections into all elective positions.

Okon, whose specific reference was the proposed September 21 LG poll in the state, had said, "Whether APC is registered or not, the PDP will continue to deliver all the available councillorship and chairmanship slots to its candidates in the September 21 LG poll and other subsequent elections."

But state chairmen of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria, All Nigeria Peoples Party and the Congress for Progressive Change, Hilliard Eta, Martins Bisong and Mike Agbeh, respectively, during the inaugural stakeholders meeting of the APC, said the PDP had lost memory of the fact that the All Peoples Party once ruled the state.

Bisong said, "I do not blame him for making that statement because that is their mindset. They have forgotten so soon the history of politics in Cross River. The APP was once there; so, what tells the PDP that they will rule the state forever."

Speaking on the proposed LG poll, Eta said the newly registered APC would make meaningful impact by winning some elective seats in the September 21 encounter.

"We shall see if it is possible for the PDP to win all elective seats in the forthcoming LG poll. Apart from doing our grassroots campaigns, we would ensure that we have quality the presence in all the polling units during elections, unlike before," Eta said.
