THE Rivers State Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, was absent at the valedictory session held in honour of the former Chief Judge of the state, Justice Iche Ndu, on Monday in Port Harcourt.
Apart from the governor's absence, no other government official was present on the occasion, which was attended by the Minister of State for Education, Chief Nyesom Wike, and the State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr. Felix Obuah.
Though no reason was given for the governor's absence, our correspondent gathered however that the political crisis rocking the state could have been responsible for the absence of state government officials at the event.
Also absent was the state Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Worgu Boms, who was included in the programme of event held at the State High Court auditorium.
Earlier at the church service in honour of former chief judge, the Bishop of the Evo Diocese in Port Harcourt, Rt. Rev Innocent Ordu, had called on politicians to use their positions to improve the lives of the people.
Ordu also expressed the need for Nigerian politicians to avoid heating up the polity.
The cleric, who made the call while delivering a sermon at St. Cyprian's Anglican Church in Port Harcourt, pointed out that those, who betrayed the trust the people had in them, would give account of their deeds on earth.
He expressed regret that politicians always sought the support of the people and abandoned them after winning elections.
Appealing to public office holders to always render selfless service to the people, Ordu said it was wrong for politicians to fight those that asked for stewardship from them.
