Andre Villas-Boas admits he may not sign new recruits this month to cover Emmanuel Adebayor's decision to represent Togo in the Africa Cup of Nations, which leaves Tottenham short of strikers.
Adebayor could be absent from club football for up to a month depending on Togo's progress in the tournament and Spurs have only Jermain Defoe and Clint Dempsey as realistic options at centre forward.
The Togo striker hinted earlier this week that his manager had not been impressed that he chose to report for international duty.
Villas-Boas reacted by insisting those conversations would remain private and went on to say it would not prompt Spurs to chase a replacement, adding it was 'unlikely' Brazil striker Leandro Damiao would sign from Internacional.
'I don't think it will influence our transfer policy,' said Villas-Boas. 'We have been happy with the team and what we have available. We understand we can put ourselves in a difficult position if we don't have one more striker if one of Defoe or Dempsey gets injured.
'We have been here before (when Adebayor was injured at the start of the season) and managed to get through. It's not a great amount of time that we lose Adebayor for. It's a couple of important games but we can cope with it.
'We have always believed in Dempsey as a striker. We have always thought that was an alternative. It is highly unlikely we will do anything.'
Villas-Boas dismissed the idea Lewis Holtby, who has signed a pre-contract deal to move to White Hart Lane on a free transfer at the end of his deal in the summer, might arrive early for a fee, inferring that Schalke might prefer such a deal but Tottenham could wait.
