THE People's Democratic Party (PDP) and South Africa's African National Congress (ANC) have emphasized the need for Nigeria to invest in the huge revenue potential of its non-oil sector especially in solid minerals.
This was the consensus on Tuesday in Abuja when the two parties visited the Minister, Mines and Steel Development (MSD), Musa Sada.
PDP's National Financial Secretary, Bolaji Anani, and ANC's Treasurer General, Dr. Mattew Phosa, noted that it was the responsibility of both ruling parties to ensure increase in welfare of the Africans through job creation, infrastructural development and utilizing mining policies.
Phosa said: "We brought this delegation (from South Africa) so that they could speak for themselves about what they could do to get local contacts in Nigeria and South Africa.
"As you started (nationhood) in oil and gas, we started with mining, so we have a lot to learn from each other."
Sada noted that the solid minerals sector has a critical role in Nigeria's "transformation," because of its centrality in physical and infrastructural development, as well as diversification of the economic base.
