Federal Character Commission has threatened to sanction government agencies whose recruitment processes contravene due process and federal character principles.
The chairman of the FCC, Prof. Shuaibu Abdulraheem, said this on Tuesday in Abuja at a workshop for chief executives of ministries, departments and agencies in the power and steel sector.
According to him, every segment of the country must be given equal access to jobs and social infrastructure.
He said, "As you are aware, the imbalance did not start today; the commission is addressing old iniquities. We are reducing the gap between the haves and the have-nots and we are making progress.
"But I must add that the era of persuasion is coming to an end and where we have persistent violation, we will wield the big stick."
Abdulraheem explained that the commission already had three government agencies that abused their recruitment processes.
Also, the Minister of State for Power, Zainab Kuchi, said the federal character principle remained a vital tool in ensuring a balanced and stable polity.
She said, "The commission needs the maximum support and cooperation of all stakeholders to enable it to discharge its responsibilities effectively."
