Shortly after Efe Efeburuku, the chairman of Delta State House of Assembly Committee on Sports charged the Delta contingent to Eko 2012 to go to Lagos and return as tops Victor Ochei, the Speaker donated N2m as his contribution to the Delta contingent.
The Speaker, in a rare show of support, aside the money, told Executive Chairman of the Delta Sports Commission, Amaju Pinnick that for the next one week all members of the House of Assembly would focus on the festival and it might necessitate a one week break so that members can move toLagosto support Team Delta.
"We'll all be there to play our own role, to cheer our athletes and help out in any way that we can," Ochei said after presenting a cheque for N2m, his personal donation to Team Delta, interestingly, the only state whose officials canvassed and secured corporate sponsorship for their athletes.
Only last week, Senforce Insurance Brokers and 1st Marine and Energy Limited doled out up to N10m to Team Delta after Gbessu, the chairman of their volleyball Association offered to sponsor their team.
Gbesu will also supply energy drinks and water to Team Delta throughout the sports festival.
Before Pinnick led members of his board to the Speaker they addressed members of Sports House of Assembly Committee on Sports on the floor of the House. Pinnick fielded questions on not only the sports festival but also the state of sports in the state. Efe Efeburuku was at home on sports issues and queried the deteriorating sports facilities in the state and charged Pinnick to address the problems. He frowned at the inconsistencies of Warri Wolves and said that "they are now likeChelsea."
Pinnick assured that his commission was addressing the problems.
