Nigerian hiphop artiste, Dapo Daniel Oyebanji, popularly known as D'banj has won this year's MOBO award for Best Afrcan Act with Oliver Twist. The award is organised annually by MTV Base Europe Music Awards.
The Koko master beat stiff competition to clinch this prize as pop heavy weights P-Square and the very best of African acts including Spoek Mathambo, Fally Ipupa, Sarkodie, Cabo Snoop, Camp Mulla and Amadou and Mariam had all been in his way.
This award had evaded him for a long time; beaten last year by the star-on-fire Wizkid.
Dbanj by this award joins the list of past winners 2face Idibia (2007) 9ice (2008) and Nneka (2009).
D'Banj is best known internationally for his 2012 hit Oliver Twist, an uptempo dance fusion of Afro-Beats and electronic dance music that topped the African charts 2011 and was a top 10 hit in the UK singles chart in 2012 reaching. Number 2 on the UK R&B chart
