The Power Holding Company of Nigeria on Monday denied collecting N17 million from Governor Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto State.
A statement by the Head of Public Affairs, Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company, Mr. Babalimmy Omar, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria, said the company was however working out ways to restore power to the state.
According to the statement, investigation by the company has not traced any money issued to it for any purpose by the state government.
It said the five-man committee earlier inaugurated by the company was unable to trace such payment.
“After a thorough check through all our records, we make bold to say that the company had not received any money for power project from Sokoto State Government in the sum of N17 million as being publicised in the media.
“The management solicits the support and cooperation of the customers and stakeholders to ensure quick resolution of the current situation and subsequent transformation of the industry,” he said.
NAN recalls that the National Union of Electricity Workers on Thursday gave the governor 48 hours within which to apologise over his alleged flogging of one of its members on October 24, this year.
The governor has since denied the allegation.
