Guy Kouton, a Beniniose cook employed at No. 19, Berla Visita Crescent, Banana Island, Lagos was yesterday arraigned before at Igbosere Magistrates’ Court for stealing his employers jewellery worth N15m.
ASP Julius Oyakhilome, the police prosecutor stated that the accused conspired with others on September 16 to steal the jewellery belonging to Kehinde Phillips of the stated address. Oyakhilome added that the suspect’s accomplices in the crime are still at large.
The suspect, Kouton, however pleaded not guilty to the charge.
According to reports, Oyakhilome explained that the cook was arrested when the jewellery got missing but he was later released after agreeing to return the stolen item. According to the prosecutor, Kouton was re-arrested for his failure to return the items.
The magistrate, A. F. Botoku granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum. He also advised the prosecutor to produce witnesses at the next hearing failing which she will be forced to strike out the case.
She later adjourned the case to October 22 for trial.
