•She's married to me, not to my relations -Husband
A housewife, Iyabo Ahmed, has urged an Ilorin Area Court to dissolve her four-year marriage to her husband, Aminu, over their inability to have children.
Iyabo, 31, who resides in Opomalu Area of Ilorin, said that her resolve to stay out of the marriage was because her in-laws accused her of barrenness. She told the court that her husband's relatives were fond of threatening her and blaming her for her inability to bear children.
"My husband's relatives have been frustrating me and threatening that they would fling me out of my husband's house if I refuse to bear a child before 2014. Our marriage was contracted in 2009. I want to end it because I cannot stand the attitude of my in-laws towards me anymore," Iyabo said. Ahmed objected to the prayer of the petitioner, adding that he was still in love with his wife in spite his relatives' threats.
"I know that only Allah produces child and I have warned my wife not to mind my relatives since I am the one that married her. My relatives cannot dictate to me how to run my home."
Ahmed therefore urged the court to grant an adjournment to enable him reconcile with his wife and approach his relatives to embrace peace. The Judge, Mr Yusuf Abdulkareem, adjourned the case to November12, 2013 for possible reconciliation or continuation of hearing.
