Eat right for your blood type

I am a strong proponent of a healthy lifestyle regimen that you can maintain, without feeling deprived or depraved.

If, in your quest for maintaining optimum health, you have a long resume of diets you have embarked on and you are just plain tired of jumping into every ship of fad diet or the 'next best discovery diet'; only to jump out of it before it gets to shore because you fell ill; got tired of it, the enthusiasm with which you started it waned off; you were not getting any tangible results; or it just was not cutting it for you.

Eating right for your type is a quite popular blood type diet whose proponent is Dr Peter D'Adamo.  He believes that the secret to healthy, vigorous, disease –free living and longevity, simply lies in knowing your blood type!

Our blood is our life force. Blood is life itself. Your blood type reflects your internal chemistry. Dr D'Adamo believes it is the key that unlocks the mysteries of disease, longevity, fitness and emotional strength.

The blood type eating regimen proffers that people of certain blood types thrive or suffer when eating one kind of diet or another. This probably explains why two people will eat the same food; one will just be fine and have no issues, whilst the other will suffer from bloating, indigestion, heartburn and gas. People with particular blood type are therefore expected to follow specifically prescribed diet for their blood type.

The blood types A, B, O or AB.

Type AB is very rare.

If your blood type is O:

• Eat meat (high protein, low carbohydrate).

• Cut out wheat and most other grains.

• Engage in vigorous aerobic exercise.

• Risk factors for ulcers and inflammatory diseases such as arthritis increase if you eat incorrectly for your type.

Blood Type A:

• You should be a vegetarian (high carbohydrate, low fat).

• Engage in gentle exercise such as yoga or golf.

• Meditate to deal with stress.

• Risk factors for cancer and heart disease increase if you eat incorrectly for your type.

Blood Type B:

• Have the most varied diet of all the blood types, one including meat; the only blood type that does well with dairy products.

• Engage in exercise such as moderate swimming or walking.

• Risk of slow – growing viruses that attack the nervous system increases if you eat incorrectly for your type.

Blood Type AB:

• Have most of the benefits and intolerances of types A and B.

• Engage in calming exercises and relaxation techniques.

• Have the friendliest immune system of all the blood types.

The blood type diet shows which foods, spices, teas, condiments, supplements and vitamins best suit the blood types.

I have since gone ahead and looked at the list of recommended foods under my blood type and it is very interesting that most of the foods I have since realised I am intolerant to and avoid are not permissible. Paying attention to how you feel and how you react to certain foods is crucial as you begin to develop a healthy lifestyle regimen.

Could eating for your blood type hold the key to your eating right? I wish you optimum health and well-being!
