The Auditor-General, Ondo State, Mr. Sunday Adegoke, on Tuesday said the 'Whistle Blowers Bill' being packaged by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria will discourage corruption if passed into law by the National Assembly.

Adegoke, a Fellow of the institute, said the proposed bill was seeking adequate cover for any professional accountant who detected fraud at the planning stage and exposed the perpetrators before they could hatch their criminal acts.

He stated this while delivering a career talk on the topic, 'Choosing a career: The accountancy option,' at a function organised by the Akure District of ICAN for students of the various secondary schools in the state capital.

The auditor-general lamented the high rate of corruption and financial scandals in the public and private sectors, and noted that such could be halted if a legal cover was put in place to protect whoever exposed perpetrators of fraud.

Adegoke said, "The whistle blowers bill being proposed by the institute is perfected at the ICAN national level for presentation to the National Assembly.
