PDP crises normal – Bankole

Father of the immediate past Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dimeji, Chief Alani Bankole, has described the crises rocking the Peoples Democratic Party nationwide as a "normal occurrence."

Bankole was reacting to the alleged power tussle tearing the Presidency, the party leadership and some serving governors apart.

The PDP chief spoke when members of the Governing Council of the Federal College of Education, Osiele in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, visited him in his Onikolobo, Abeokuta home.

He attributed the cause of the crises to individual differences among party members.

Bankole stressed that the ruling PDP was the only party in the country, whose operations had the semblance of what was expected in a normal democratic setting.

He said, "The crisis in the PDP today is normal. It is only if all members of the party are geniuses or if all the members are fools that they will think the same way. But in PDP, we have different people and the party is very large.

"We have our challenges but when you look at all the parties that exist today, the nearest one to democratic system is the PDP.

"In PDP, you can still challenge the leadership. Which other party can challenge its leadership? Which other party holds congresses before selecting their candidates? You can only find such things in the PDP. We will definitely overcome whatever is happening to us."
