Overcoming the champions, by Pastor Adewunmi
Jun 15th 2013, 23:04

Do you desire to overcome your powerful enemies? Then you must take the right approach like David did when dreaded Goliath threatened the armies of Israel. Pastor Segun Adewunmi of House of Prayer Ministries has the victory method: "You must fight from the position of strength." Excerpts:

This week, I am expected to continue the message on Spiritual Slavery illustrated with the pit of Joseph as promised, but due to numerous enquiries of how one can be delivered from various bondages, I have chosen to release a prayer strategy for overcoming what people call problems which in actual facts are mere challenges.

There are three champions in the Bible and these exist in the life of every man. They are Physical Champions, Intellectual Champions and Spiritual Champions. A champion is the undefeated individual at a given time. The Biblical Physical Champion before David dethroned him was Goliath. We also have the Intellectual Champion as Ahitophel whose counsel was like that of God.

"And the counsel of Ahithophel, which he counselled in those days, was as if a man had inquired at the oracle of God: so was all the counsel of Ahithophel both with David and with Absalom." (2nd Samuel 16:23). Yet we have the Spiritual Champion as Balaam, whoever he cursed was cursed.

"Come now therefore, I pray thee, curse me this people; for they are too mighty for me: peradventure I shall prevail, that we may smite them, and that I may drive them out of the land: for I wot that he whom thou blessest is blessed, and he whom thou cursest is cursed". (Numbers 22:6) I will today address the physical giants and champions that are in your life and today as David defeated his Goliath, you will defeat your giants. The most common physical giant is terminal sickness.

Terminal sicknesses are those sicknesses that are medically incurable. The most prominent of such sickness is AIDS. There are other champions like those things that constitute hindrances to your progress and good lives. Most times, we are unable to determine what happens to us but at all times, we are in control of how we handle these situations. It is our action or inaction that people interpret as our personality.

In the case of Goliath, the leadership of the church represented by King Saul, the elders of the church represented by the Army Officers of Israel chosen to engage mercenaries who would fight Goliath for them. For forty days that Goliath boasted, no one could volunteer to face him. Same today, believers are busy seeking prayer contractors from camp to camp, church to church and mountain to mountain.

Saul was the tallest man in Israel, he had the special anointing to prevail in all encounters, yet he ran into hiding each time Goliath called just as you run to Prophets, Herbalists, Alfas, e.t.c. whenever you are facing any challenge.

"And the Spirit of the LORD will come upon thee, and thou shalt prophesy with them, and shalt be turned into another man. And let it be, when these signs are come unto thee, that thou do as occasion serve thee; for God is with thee". (1st Samuel 10:6-7) Brethren, I wish to release to you the five stones of David so that you can send one unto the mathematical centre of the head of your Goliath. This will release you from the bondage of obscurity that the small lad David was in.

He had killed the lion and the bear with his hand, but he recorded no glory for them until he killed his Goliath. He had a profile that was ten times that of King Saul. Moreover, David is still keeping the remaining four smooth stones till today. He is a very dangerous man for the enemies. You readers must collect your five stones even though you need only one to flatten out and destroy your enemy forever.

Fighting from the position of strength

The first approach in spiritual encounter is self introduction as he that has dominion. Warfare prayers are not prayed up but prayed down. You, as true believers are spiritually taller than your enemies which means you only need to knock them off from your height. You can as well kick them out of your sight, if you consider the ratio of the power that was available to Moses and Aaron to what the magicians of Egypt had.

While Moses and Aaron were able to wrought ten plagues, the magicians could not exceed plague number 3. It follows that your spiritual height is ten feet as against that of the enemy which is three feet. Moreover, the enemy has surrendered in Exodus 8:19 that yours is the finger of God. "Then the magicians said unto Pharaoh, This is the finger of God: and Pharaoh's heart was hardened, and he hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had said."

(Exodus 8:19) With this mindset, your option in all spiritual encounters remains that of the victorious. The Bible says, "And they shall fight against thee; but they shall not prevail against thee; for I am with thee, saith the LORD, to deliver thee." (Jeremiah 1:19) "There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee." (Joshua 1:5) "I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.

Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession. Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel." (Psalm 2:7-9) Warfare Prayers are not done on our kneels but we must stand against the enemy. You do not call on God to come and do the fight but fight the enemy with His name. Power has been surrendered to you; it only requires you to move with courage.

"Thou therefore gird up thy loins, and arise, and speak unto them all that I command thee: be not dismayed at their faces, lest I confound thee before them." (Jeremiah 1:17) What the above means is that you must live your Christian life with confidence and courage. Do not begin to see the army of Syria like Gehazi but the army of God like Elisha.

"And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them." 2nd King 6:16 Do not run from your Goliath like Saul did, but pursue him like David. It is an insult to your position as a Christian for you or anybody to believe someone can attack or hinder you. A believer is he, who has the Holy Spirit. Holy Spirit is God in man. 1st John 4:4 says "Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world." You are therefore, not expected to fear, if indeed you have Christ living in you.
