People of Ikwerre Ethnic Nationality have said the Rivers State, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, must be allowed to complete his tenure irrespective of the plot by some forces to oust him.

Hundreds of Ikwerre people held a one-day summit on Monday in Port Harcourt where they took a unanimous decision not to allow any person or group of personal to "intimidate Amaechi out of office."

Several groups like the Ogbakor- Ikwerre Cultural Organisation World-wide, the Ikwerre Development Association, the Ikwerre Youth Movement and the Ikwerre Women Forum took the decision at the summit.

President-General of Ogbakor-Ikwerre, Professor Augustine Onyeozu, decried the continued "harassment of the governor by anti-democratic forces", warning that the people would not watch and allow their son to be humiliated.

Onyeozu described Amaechi as an innocent person, who did not deserve such persecution by those opposed to his "people-oriented style" of governance.

Onyeozu said, "The governor (Amaechi) has no place in his village to call his house. We have not seen that in the history of Black Africa except for the late Aminu Kano and former President Julius Nyerere of Tanzania.

"So, if you have any problem with Amaechi, take him to court. There is no problem with that. Today, they are calling Amaechi a bad man so that they can bring him down. But we are saying please, whoever he has offended should allow him to finish his tenure."

Also, a member of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Mr. Azubuike Wanjoku, described the move to impeach the state governor as an effort in futility.

"Nobody can impeach Governor Amaechi. Those making moves to bribe the State Assembly to impeach the governor should use the money to repair the East-West Road and Ogoni Road."

Meanwhile, the Forum of former lawmakers of the Rivers State House of Assembly has described Amaechi as a born leader, who is interested in fighting for the rights of the people.

The class of between 1979 to 2011 ex-members of the State House of Assembly enlisted their support for the state governor over his current political challenges, even as they assured the governor that he (Amaechi) would come out of the travails unscathed in the end.

Speaking when he led his group on a solidarity visit to the governor, the former Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Mr. Stephen Ezekwem, maintained that democracy would only succeed where justice existed.

He said, "As members of the legislature one time in the state who had served in different capacities, it becomes imperative for us to come and show our support for you and encourage you and also to tell you that what you are fighting for is justice.
