Allocations: C'River accuses LGs of deceit
Jun 2nd 2013, 23:04

Cross River State Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Chief Peter Ojie, has accused council chairmen in the state of deceit in the disclosure of allocations they receive.

He said under the joint account, the state did not deduct more than the agreed sum for the execution of joint projects in the state.

Ojie said this in Calabar on Saturday while speaking with reporters on the activities of the ministry.

He said it was wrong for the council bosses to complain of zero allocation whereas the state government ensured that each local government got its full allocation.

He said, "These council administrators have been the most beneficial in terms of statutory allocations. Monthly federal receipts due them are given except the agreed deductions for the execution of joint projects at the grassroots. They are not telling their people the truth about how much they receive monthly from the centre.

"There is nothing like zero allocation. It is a lie for any council chairman to claim that he or she receives nothing at the end of the month. I am the chairman of the Joint Account Allocation Committee, so I know what I'm talking about. There are documents to show how much they collect every month."
