All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) appears to be gaining more support as it received more than 1000 youths from different political parties to its rally in Onitsha, in preparation for November 16, 2013 governorship election.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Mr. Obinna Osuji, who said he defected from All Progressives Congress (APC), because of the consistency and commitment of APGA towards promotiing Igbo's tradition and protecting its cultural identify.
Osuji said they were attracted by unrelenting efforts of Governor Obi's administration in transforming the state and empowering the youth.
Receiving the defectors, the National Chairman of APGA, Chief Victor Umeh commended them of their wisdom and courage in joining the party to forge a common front under the platform of APGA to take its rightful place in the country.
In his speech, Governor Peter Obi urged Ndigbo to take proactive measure to reassert themselves to avoid being enslaved, oppressed and suppressed in any form.
Obi observed that his administration has redefined governance and elevated the state to a pride of place.
The APGA Governorship Candidate, Dr. Obiano assured that he will continue with the development of the governor to transform the commercial city.
In his reaction, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Mobilisation, Mr. Maduka Alor, while commending the youth for joining APGA, expressed satisfaction that youths are now more politically conscious and had resolved not to be willing tools in the hands of politicians.
He said they will sustain mobilisation and sensitisation of youths to ensure that they participate actively in the forthcoming election to enthrone credible leadership.
