Army in Benin on Friday, confirmed the loss of several lives and damage of many buildings and cars in a communal clash in Ukhuorumi in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo.
Army Public Relations Officer, Capt. Roslyn Managbe , who confirmed the incident to the newsmen in Benin, however, said that the security agents were yet to make any arrest.
According to the Army spokes person, "we arrived after the damaged has been done. We are on ground to forestall any further crisis and to bring peace back to the community,'' she said.
Eye witnesses, who spoke to journalists on the condition of anonymity, said that the clash was between members of Ukhorumi Community Development Association (CDA), loyal to both the chairman and his vice over leadership tussle.
"As we speak, the community is deserted by the people for fear of possible reprisal attacks as many cars and buildings were burnt by the combatants,'' one of the witnesses stated.
They said that trouble started when loyalists to the CDA vice chairman allegedly tried to wrest power from the incumbent chairman.
