Chairman house of Representatives Committee on Rules and Business, Mr. Albert Tanimu, on Thursday in Abuja, decried the rate at which Nigerians and prominent public servants troop abroad for medical attention. He resolved to sponsor a bill to stop medical tourism by officials of the Federal Government.
Tanimu, who represents Takum Duga Ussa Constituency in Taraba State, made this known to journalists on the premises of Primus International Specialty Hospital.
He said, “People send their wards abroad and neglect the facilities in the country thereby gradually killing the economy, destroying education and health sector, in the process, they help to build the economies of other nations that encourage medical or other tourism.
“Time has come for us to stop that and I have the plan of sponsoring a bill to stop medical tourism in Nigeria.”
Earlier, the Chairperson, Market Women's Association of Nigeria, Chief Mrs. Fatima Sani, called on management of Nigerian hospitals to improve on their services and imitate the good qualities and care provided at the PISH.
