Jos – Waziri Mali, one of the victims of the helicopter crash in Jos, in which senior police officers, including DIG John Haruna, were killed, has solicited for more assistance from well meaning individuals and organisations.
Mali, whose house was one of the four houses destroyed by the crash, on Wednesday in Jos said that the situation had rendered his family homeless and without any property.
“As you can see, my house was destroyed by the aircraft. In fact everything that I had was in that structure that is lying there in ruins. I and my family have been squatting with neighbours.
“I thank God that no member of my family was killed or injured by the crash.
“My daughter, who would have being a victim, saw an old woman who needed help and went out to help the woman when the incident occurred.
“I want to sincerely thank all those who have been helping us since March 14 when helicopter crashed on my house and I pray God to bless them.
“I also want to thank the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) for coming to our aid by giving us cement, zinc, and nails. But there are so many other things that we need like blocks, wood and other materials.''
Mali appealed to the police authorities to emulate NEMA by also assisting the victims with more materials and money to rebuild their houses.
Another victim of the crash, Mr David Sunday, whose house was also destroyed, said that he and his family had been staying in an uncompleted building in the neighbourhood.
He also solicited for more assistance from the State and local Governments.
“I have been staying in an uncompleted building with wife and three children. We don't have money to rent a house since ours was destroyed.''
Sunday said that he and other victims needed money to engage the services of masons and carpenters to rebuild their houses after NEMA had assisted them with some materials. (NAN)
