Oxygen Broadband Networks, the pioneer wireless fi delity (WiFi) internet company in Nigeria, said it planned to grow the number of wireless internet hotspots in Lagos to over 1, 000 in subsequent months.
The company announced this during the partnership between it and Chicken Republic designed to achieve the strategic objective.
According to Chief Operating Offi cer (COO), Wande Adalemo, the move was necessitated by the feedback received from Oxygen' subscribers, which, he said, was an indication of a growing demand for more hotspots.
He noted that the partnership with Chicken Republic, a leading fast food chain, will offer free high speed to the eatery's customers at various outlets.
"Starting this September, Oxygen Broadband Networks will provide free high speed internet access for customers, demonstrating the potential benefi ts of broadband access on the go for both Chicken Republic and Oxygen. This starts off with the presence of Oxygen superfast WiFi internet network at nine Chicken Republic outlets across Lagos," he said.
On the partnership with the fast food company, Adalemo stated that Chicken Republic was very strategic "because it is a technology savvy fi rm that bought into the company's vision."
He maintained that the partnership will see the increase of more Oxygen internet powered by Chicken Republic in the near future.
While reeling the locations that people could access WiFi in Lagos metropolis, he said they included the Chicken Republic at Marina, Ajose Adeogun, Adeola Odeku, Admiralty Way, Lekki, Awolowo Ikoyi, Bode Thomas, Surulere, Jibowu,Yaba, and Ikeja City Mall, Alausa, all in Lagos.
He said the latest addition to locations where people could access Oxygen WiFi hotspots in Lagos has rounded the outlets to 30, already.
On downtime, Adalemo explained that since the company started, the downtime was just an hour since it started operations and it was quickly resolved. Adding that, a central operation centre (NOC) is in place to enable a 24/7 monitoring of the network and to guarantee fast reaction times in case of faults by the local NOC personnel.
Also speaking at the event, Head, Marketing and Public Relations, Chicken Republic, Susan Rotimi, disclosed that 300 users can access the WiFi simultaneously, while reaffi rming that human traffi c was not an issue because of the way the outlet was structured
