Anambra State Governor, Mr. Peter Obi, has said that the government will soon commence funds distribution to schools to aid sports promotion. Governor Obi made the announcement at the final of Peter Obi Unity Cup competition in Oba at the weekend.
Obi, who received the state's "Pillar of Sports" award at the ceremony, also said the state would donate a new bus to the Football Association before the end of next month, adding that contract for the Awka Mini Stadium had been awarded for N600million out of which N200million had been given to the contractor.
He explained that the competition was initiated to ensure unity among communities in the Anambra State. Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Dr. Edozie Aroh, said the competition had advanced the state grassroots development programme for harnessing budding talent.
"About 120 communities participated in the competition while arrangement has been concluded to improve the standard from the next edition," Aroh said.
Winner of the cup got N1.5million while the runner- up received N1million as the third and fourth teams got N500, 000 and N200, 000 respectively. Highest goal scorer, best goalkeeper, most valuable player and best behaved team also got different prizes.
