Sep 23rd 2013, 23:15, by daily Editor

Men of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) have recovered a device suspected to be a left over of civil war ordinance in a building site at Unity Estate, Enugu.

Daily Independent gathered that some labourers, who were digging on the site, suddenly noticed a strange metallic object and immediately alerted the police.

The men of the anti-kidnapping unit of the state police command swiftly moved into the site and successfully evacuated the object, which was identified as civil war left over unexploded ordinance device (UXO).

Enugu State police spokesman, Ebere Anmaraizu, confirmed the report in a statement on Monday.

Amaraizu said the device was recovered successfully and evacuated from the site at Unity Estate Enugu at around 2.30 pm on Friday.

Meanwhile, the statement added that the command has appealed to members of the public not to tamper with any suspected object they come in contact with during farming, road construction and building constructions but to report promptly to any nearest police station or the anti bomb unit of the state.

The latest incident was the second time within the past one week that unexploded civil war ordinance was recovered in Enugu State.

About a week ago, an ordinance was recovered from Umuhu town in Awgu Local Government Area of the state.
