Egyptian Organization for Human Rights concerned at Muslim Brotherhood supreme guide's allegations of torture

Supreme Guide of the Muslim Brotherhood Mohamed Badie under arrest

Supreme Guide of the Muslim Brotherhood Mohamed Badie under arrest

The Egyptian Organization for Human Rights (EOHR) has demanded an investigation regarding  allegations that Muslim Brotherhood Supreme Guide Mohamed Badie was tortured following his arrest on 20 August.

In a press statement on Thursday the group said it had filed a complaint to the general prosecutor requesting an investigation.

The NGO said: "International treaties require that law enforcement officials respect and preserve human dignity and rights."

Head of EOHR Hafez Abu Se'da said detained suspects should be treated equally "whatever their political, religious or ideological affiliation."

Badie is being detained for interrogation for 15 days over allegations of inciting violence in Bein El Sarayat resulting in deaths and affiliation with a terrorist group.

Badie's arrest was described by the White House as "contrary to the military's commitments to fostering an inclusive political process."
