A Benin City-based civil society organization, One Love Foundation International, has threatened to mobilise stakeholders and electorates in Ovia Federal Constituency of Edo State against federal lawmakers representing the constituency. Executive Director of the group, Chief Patrick Eholor, said that the group has concluded plans to commence the recall of all federal lawmakers of the constituency as a result of their poor representation of the communities.
To achieve its aim, Chief Eholor said his group would soon invoke the relevant sections of the country's Constitution in order to recall the legislators, whom he said have failed to offer quality representation to the people of the constituency.
A communiqué signed by Chief Eholor reads in part, "It is prominently provided for in section 14 (2) (a) of the Constitution that sovereignty belongs to the people from whom the government derives its powers and authority.
There is a yawning gap between the expectations of the electorate in Edo State and the turnover on their political investment in terms of the quality of representation offered by their various elected representatives, especially from those at the federal level which have fallen short of standards," the communiqué said.
Chief Eholor maintained that the era of fence-sitting by the people of the constituency was over, adding that the group would make bold its threat soon.
