REVEALED: UHURU/ RUTO's Government investigating RAILA ODINGA's Sh 30 billion SECRET account
Aug 1st 2013, 22:55, by Talk Afrika

Thursday August 1, 2013 - The Jubilee Government under the leadership of President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy, William Ruto, is currently investigating Raila Odinga's finance machinery especially given that he has already flown abroad more than five times since the last poll.

The move is aimed at taming Raila's political influence and to clip his political wings by denying him financial aid wired to his bank accounts from international NGOs mostly from Germany, Britain and United States

According to a Senior Central Bank official, last month, Central Bank Governor, Prof Njuguna Ndungu, intercepted Sh 30 billion that was sent to an account associated with former Prime Minister.

Sources revealed that Raila was denied access to the funds until he explains the source of the money.

The money is believed to have been sent by the United States Government to finance Raila's political activities in order to remain afloat in Kenyan politics more so after declaring that he will contest the 2017 Presidential elections.

The move to monitor Raila's bank accounts comes in the wake of secret reports that regions that voted for Raila and CORD in the last General Elections are still 100 percent loyal to him and that the voting pattern is likely to be repeated in 2017.

Reckless BillionaireTunde Folawiyo, Ifeoma Andre Williams In Messy Sex Scandal -How his wife caught the lovebirds in Paris

Lagos! Lagos! Lagos! A city that is without doubt one of a kind… In Lagos the fear of the unknown is the beginning of wisdom.

Narrow it down to the island social scene which is on the same level as the high octave Miami, sinful Las Vegas and toxic Hollywood. The Island social scene has come to surpass the expectation of us the informed. Even before this time, we had taken a very critical, courageous, fearless and no-restraints attitude in reporting the despicable sexual acts that go on within the Ikoyi/Victoria Island/Lekki axis of Lagos State. From the nymphomaniacs, to the lectors in the "university"  of bisexuality, to the unrepentant homosexuals, we have dared to not only brazenly report their illicit and nefarious activities but we have always triumphed over every form of intimidation. It is important to state that the sex scandal you are about to digest beats even the imagination of the OSCAR-winning director Steven Spilberg.

Let us notify every gladiator herein mentioned in this epic exposé that we know so much beyond your imagination. At this stage we shall only be putting out less than 30 per cent of the real gist while we await any form of provocation and then we shall compel the king to dance naked in public.

Sexscapades and sex scandals are not new to the Lagos social establishment, but there is basically one alleged sex escapade that can stand on the same platform as this one. For those readers who are not in the know, let us refresh your memory.

Many years ago during his lifetime, oil magnet Bade Ojora was alleged to have caught his delectable and gorgeous wife Lanra Ojora in her lingerie at his very close friend's house, which means she was having a hot and steamy affair with her husband's close friend. It was indeed a huge shock to the late Bade as he was reported to love her beyond affection. This scandal was so potent that even after many years Lanre Ojora's friends still make reference to that incidence. Her friends also gossip it behind her back.

A fortnight ago the entire Lagos Island social establishment was shaken to its very foundation when a lot of big boys and girls received this very detailed BB messages on their mobile phone devices. We also do have our own but for lack of space we shall not be putting it out now. The summary of the BB messages was the shocking allegation that the scion of the Folawiyo family,Tunde Folawiyo was caught pants down with Ifeoma Williams at a super luxury Parisan Hotel. And who caught the them? The wife of Tunde Folawiyo, Renie. The mild and obscene allegation insisted that Renie Folawiyo had suspected that her husband, Tunde was having a hot and passionate yet illicit sexual relationship with Ifeoma Williams, the wife of Andre Williams, who is the younger brother of the former Nigeria Football Association, NFA chairman Kojo Williams.

Opinion: Brother’s keeper or killer? The truth about second hand smoke

News and Opinion... for the Young Nigerian
Opinion: Brother's keeper or killer? The truth about second hand smoke

by Bankole Oluwafemi

Black Man Smoking

The global tobacco industry counts on this ignorance to bolster a business that is reported to be booming in emerging economies, where information about the negatives of tobacco consumption aren’t quite as widespread and the regulatory frameworks aren’t as effective.

So you don’t smoke. That doesn’t necessarily mean that all is right with the world. Far from it, in fact. The negative health effects of smoking on smokers are obvious and almost universally acknowledged. What isn’t as obvious however, is the effect of smoking on non-smokers. It’s a serious concern that doesn’t get the amount of attention that it really deserves, seeing how focused we are on actual smokers themselves.

But it is an unavoidable reality that tobacco smoking endangers and kills many other people asides the smoker themselves. None of this stuff is made up. Years of scientific concensus and statistical research have shown that secondhand smoke is a known human carcinogen and contains more than 7,000 chemical compounds. More than 250 of these chemicals are known to be harmful, and at least 69 are known to cause cancer.

Basically, every time someone smokes, they treat everyone around them to a toxic cocktail of lethal substances that you wouldn’t find in your ordinary margarita. Check out (but don’t sample) some of the ingredients –

Hydrogen cyanide — a highly poisonous gas used in chemical weapons and pest control

Benzene — a component of gasoline

Formaldehyde — a chemical used to embalm corpses

Carbon monoxide — a poisonous gas found in car exhaust

That certainly doesn't sound like an agreeable mix, not in the least. And that’s just four out of 69 very dangerous substances.

Evidence also shows that inhaled sidestream smoke, the main component of second-hand smoke, is about four times more toxic than mainstream smoke.

The overall effect of secondhand smoke are summed up by sobering statistics. Over 600,000 non-smokers die each year from inhaling second hand smoke, an unbelievably high death toll for such a passive activity. Men, women, and heart-breakingly, children who are not only most vulnerable but often aren’t in a position to do anything about it.

By now, do you still think it's okay to be near that person that smokes? Not to mention living, working or being married to one.

On the 11th of July, the Ministry of Health released a report on adult tobacco use in Nigeria — Nigeria's Global Adult Tobacco Survey (GATS) — the first of its kind in sub-Saharan Africa. The news from that report is both good and bad. Tobacco use in Nigeria is low – around 5.6 percent, a fact that can be possibly be attributed to predominant social, moral and religious compunctions. The bad news however is that widespread ignorance of tobacco smoke’s deleterious effects still persists.

The global tobacco industry counts on this ignorance to bolster a business that is reported to be booming in emerging economies, where information about the negatives of tobacco consumption aren’t quite as widespread and the regulatory frameworks aren’t as effective.

Which is precisely why the Nigerian government needs to take a harder line in approaching the looming menace of tobacco. There are already such policies in play in Lagos and Abuja that ban smoking in Lagos and Abuja, but those are clearly isolated instances that need to be implemented across the board.

At the federal level however, there are however growing indications that Nigerian policy makers have finally begun to advert their minds to the pursuit of concerted legislative measures at the behest of a number of local anti-tobacco advocacy NGOs, that will limit the sale, marketing and consumption of tobacco in the country.

Creating a smoke free atmosphere is however not the sole duty of the government. Everyone has a role to play. So what can you do? First, get the facts –

- tobacco smoke, direct or second-hand, causes disease, and death.

- no level of exposure to tobacco smoke is safe. Not smoking is no guarantee. People who smoke are harming not just themselves but everyone else in their immediate vicinity.

- children are especially vulnerable because they cannot escape from authority figures who indulge in the habit.

Armed with these facts, you not only know to avoid tobacco smoke as much as possible but also to use that knowledge to help everyone around you, as well as support any anti-smoking/tobacco initiatives.

For that friend, acquaintance, co-worker or spouse that smokes, you might start by asking what they would rather be — their brother’s keepers and not their brother’s killers? Perhaps going past the desire for personal well being to appeal to their sense of duty to other humans, including their loved ones, might convince them to drop the habit.

Why Reps passed 2013 amended budget –Lawmaker
Jul 30th 2013, 23:05, by TORDUE SALEM

The House of Representatives passed President Goodluck Jonathan's amendment to the 2013 Appropriation Act last week to avoid an aggravated crisis in the country, it was learnt yesterday.

President Jonathan had in March returned to the Senate and the House of Representatives the 2013 budget as he signed it, but the House threw out his proposals on the basis that the proposals were unconstitutional and must come in form of a supplementary budget.

The House, however, made a u-turn on Thursday, December 20, 2012 and passed the 2013 budget of N4.987 trillion as against the N4.924 trillion presented by Jonathan, which represents a difference of N63 billion.

Chairman of the Committee on House Services, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, at a press briefing yesterday, explained that the National Assembly passed the amendment because the executive had reworked its earlier proposals into specifics. "What we must understand is that it was not that same document that we threw away that was passed.

As soon as we rejected that for failure to meet the test, I guess they must have learnt their lessons, maybe with the advice of the Attorney- General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, they brought another document. "Now, in this document, the sections they clearly wanted to be amended were specified.

They brought the principal Act, which is the 2013 Appropriation Act that has been signed by the President, and said 'okay', hold this section and replace this section with this; put this fund here, replace this one with this; reduce this one from here, and include it there." Dogara said.

He added that; "The thinking of the House was that in order not to run through serious crisis since we were going to go on our annual recess, we should help them to perfect this document and just pass it in the interest of Nigerians. I believe that all the parties have learnt their lessons, and these mistakes would never be repeated in the future."

Infrastructure: Nigeria needs $2.9trn in 30 years –Minister
Jul 30th 2013, 23:05, by KEMI OLAITAN

The Minister of National Planning, Dr. Shamusdeen Usman, yesterday painted a gloomy picture of the challenges facing the country.

Usman disclosed that the country needed $2.9 trillion to close the infrastructure gap over the next 30 years.

The minister, who is also the vice-chairman of the National Planning Commission, NPC, made the disclosure at the South- West validation workshop on the draft National Integrated Infrastructure Master Plan, NIIMP, in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

Usman, who spoke through the Secretary to NCP, Ntufam Fidelis Ugbo, said the amount was the required investment to close infrastructure gap between 2014 and 2044.

According to him, the country currently spends between $9 billion and $10 billion per annum on infrastructure.

The 30-year NIIMP plan, Usman said, would cut across various sectors of the economy and accelerate economic activities for the teeming populace with infrastructure investments per zone increasing to 2,900 as against the current 10 infrastructure investment level.

The minister added that NIIMP became necessary in view of the country's huge infrastructure gap, which had slowed down economic growth, reduced the impact of efforts in reducing poverty and unemployment and made life more difficult for Nigerians.

At the workshop which had stakeholders from the six states in the South-West zone in attendance, Usman listed benefits of NIIMP to include enhanced economic growth, prioritised projects and programmes, efficient allocation of resources, enabling environment for investors, positive externalities and investors guide.

He added that the bottom line would be to build strong and inclusive growth and create jobs for Nigerians. Also speaking at the workshop, Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State said infrastructure was key driver of economic growth and development and an enabler of competitiveness.

He said it was expected that the build-up in infrastructure capacity would be driven mainly by private capital through Public Private Partnership, PPP, arrangement guided by the approved national policy on PPP. Ajimobi, who spoke through his deputy, Otunba Moses Alake Adeyemo, said his administration, through its transformation agenda, was determined to ensure economic growth, employment and wealth creation, as well as create an enabling environment for investment.

He said: "To achieve these goals, the state government focuses its attention on human capital development, healthcare and skill acquisition, wealth creation and poverty alleviation, infrastructure and urban renewal, development of agriculture and agri-business, rural development and integration, security of lives and property."

Amalgamation: Braithwaite warns FG against centenary celebration
Jul 30th 2013, 23:06, by FEMI OYEWESO

Presidential candidate of the defunct National Advanced Party (NAP), Dr. Tunji Braithwaite, yesterday asked the Presidency to drop the planned centenary celebration of Nigeria's amalgamation.

Braithwaite, who spoke as guest lecturer at this year's Jesus Carnival, 37th Diocesan Anniversary of Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion and 170th year of Christianity in Egbaland, urged Nigeria's leaders to use the occasion of her centenary to destroy the nation's last inglorious relics.

The rights activist, who described such a celebration as a disgrace to the present generation, urged Nigerians to take their destinies in their hands, stressing that the reality of the amalgamation is bond to expire in 2014.

He said: "Instead of clinking glasses of champagne celebrating and venerating a bad history of enslavement, this generation should use the occasion of the nation's centenary to finally destroy its last inglorious relics and simultaneously birth a modern and progressive nation."

In what also appeared as reiterating the calls by many Nigerians for the convocation of Sovereign National Conference (SNC), Braithwaite said that the reality of the 1914 amalgamation, both in legal and political context, is deemed to cease when it assumes 99 years except the people concerned voluntarily agree to its terms and modify them.

He predicted that whether or not the current administration buys into the imperatives of a Peoples Conference to agree on the national and political direction of Nigeria, "the current generation would themselves surely, hopefully in an orderly, but firm manner, resolve this core issue of their own destiny."

Braithwaite also called on the leaders to learn from the on-going revolutions in Egypt, warning that "the charade and fraudulent elections contrived willynilly, per se is not a guarantee of security of tenure of office for an unfit and insensitive government."
