Dear Nigerian internet users, have y'all seen the proposed Cyber Crime bill?

How many of you internet users in Nigeria have seen the proposed Cyber-Crime bill which is before the House of Reps? For insulting someone online, you can get a 5year jail term. Like, for real? I don't understand why this government is not focusing on important things. They are now trying to clip the wings of news sites, blogs, readers/commenters and users of social media? They better not pass this bill into law. What about freedom of speech and expression? Find it below, culled from Punch...

For using profane language on other people or pelting them with insults or abusive words on social networking sites, Internet users in Nigeria risk a jail term that ranges between 12 months and five years.

Section 18 sub-section 1 of the Cyber-Crime Bill 2013, which is pending before the House of Representatives, expressly states that anybody who “insults publicly, through a computer system or network” commits an offence and will be liable on conviction to imprisonment “for a term of not less than five years or to a fine of not less than N10m or to both fine and imprisonment.” Continue...it gets more interesting

Also, the bill prescribes a jail term of five years for anyone who circulates or makes any racist and xenophobic material available online.

Cyber-criminals, who hide under the anonymity of the Internet to bully, harass other users of online platforms also risk jail terms when the law comes into full force. .

Section 15 of the bill, which deals with issues of cyber-stalking, prescribes a jail term of 12 months for anyone found guilty of posting messages deemed “grossly offensive, indecent, obscene” or messages aimed at “causing annoyance, inconvenience or needless anxiety” to another online user.

Besides, anyone who bullies, threatens or harasses another person, through “information and communication technologies” or posts messages online that contains “threats to kidnap or injure” another person will be jailed five years or pay a fine of N15m or both.

According to the bill, Internet service providers will be required to keep all traffic data and subscriber information for the purpose of prosecuting those suspected of committing cyber-crimes.

The service providers are expected to provide necessary assistance towards the identification, apprehension and prosecution of offenders, failure of which makes them liable to fines and or jail terms.

Part V, Section four of the bill prescribes the Office of the National Security Adviser as the co-coordinating body for all security and enforcement agencies when the bill becomes law.

One of the high points of the law is the prescription of death sentence for anyone who commits an offence against what it calls “critical national information infrastructure” which results in death.

Man on trial for rape for 'refusing to wear a condom' during sex

30 year old Imomotimi Wilson (pictured left) is on trial for rape for refusing to wear a condom on the third time he had sex with a woman during a one night stand. Moral of this story? There are actually men who can go three times in one night! Lol. Read full story below, culled from Daily Mail

A man on trial for rape for allegedly refusing to wear a condom on the third time he had sex with a woman in a one-night stand has told the jury it was 100 per cent consensual.

Imomotimi Wilson, 30, met his alleged victim in a pub and she agreed to go back to his house but told him she would only have sex if he used protection.

They had consensual sex twice but on the third occasion claims that Wilson failed to use a condom.

The woman, a 40-year-old, said Wilson treated her 'like a piece of meat' as the alleged attack took place. She said he held her hands over her head and told her 'if you love me you'll do it' before raping her for 15-20 seconds.

But giving evidence at his trial at Cambridge Crown Court Wilson said 'she said stop and that's when I stopped'.

He said: 'She said I feel like having sex again and I said "Yes, I feel like having sex with you as well again but there is no condom".

'She was romancing me, touching and kissing, and I said no, I do not want to do that because there is no condom.

'She started kissing me again and then I penetrated her. I believed 100 per cent it was consensual.

'Then she said stop and that's when I stopped. There were three seconds of penetration.'

The court heard how the pair met at The Regal pub in Cambridge on June 9 last year and took a taxi back to Wilson's shared house in the city at 2am.

She then spent most of the evening in bed with the defendant before leaving the property at around 6am.

The court heard how she phoned police later that afternoon and Wilson was arrested.

Caroline Allison, prosecuting, said: 'The prosecution say that she had made it perfectly clear in plain straight-forward language that the situation was no condom, no sex and that nothing had happened in the intervening period that would invite a reasonable belief that she was indeed consenting to unprotected sex.'

Wilson, of Cambridge, has pleaded not guilty to rape after claiming he stopped on the third time the woman said no. The trial continues.

Why women in entertainment find it difficult to get married - Uti Nwachukwu

During a discussion with Dolapo Oni, Bolanle Olukanni and Michelle Dede on the Boy & Girl Talk Marriage section on Moments With Mo show, Big Brother star Uti Nwachukwu said the reason why he and most men can't marry women in the Nigerian entertainment industry is because the women sleep around with big men and they know it.

"Most celebrity women in the entertainment industry have had to sleep with one big man or the other to have the comfortable life they live. Its common knowledge".

He said whenever he hangs out with his friends and they talk about getting married to actresses, that most times the men say never because they've met these actresses in private places with these big men.

Dear LIB readers: My husband says if I get pregnant again he'd leave

From a female LIB reader

"I have three sons but I want a daughter desperately. My husband always said he wanted only two children and after the birth of our second son, he warned me not to get pregnant again. But because I wanted a girl, I got pregnant again but had another son. I still want a girl and I'm ready to go through the birthing process again but my husband says the day I tell him I'm pregnant again, he would end the marriage and walk away. I don't know how serious he is with the threat but I'm afraid to test him. What should I do? I love my sons but I really want a daughter

Beyonce to be studied in the University

Queen Bee has joined other celebrities including Oprah and husband Jay Z, (who has a Georgetown University sociology course named after him), who are studied in the University. The course is called Politicizing Beyonce and can be taken at Rutgers University in New Jersey.

The University’s Department of Women’s and Gender Studies will be exploring the social & cultural significance of the songstress’s music and image.

The course will allow fans to explore Beyonce's alter ego Sasha Fierce, and debate the extent of control she has over her own image. They will also debate whether her red hot persona is an outlet of female sexual empowerment or merely complying with western gender stereotypes.

"This isn’t a course about Beyonce’s political engagement or how many times she performed during President Obama’s inauguration weekend. She certainly pushes boundaries. While other artists are simply releasing music, she’s creating a grand narrative around her life, her career, and her persona.’ Kevin Allred, the person in charge of the course at Rutgers University said
