Oloffa tussle: Ruling House wants Appeal Court verdict implemented
Jul 15th 2013, 23:00, by WOLE ADEDEJI

The Olugbense Ruling House that won the appeal case against the Oloffa of Offa has urged the Kwara State Government to execute the order of the Court of Appeal which directed that Prince Abdulrauf Adegboyega Keji should be crowned the monarch forthwith.

Addressing a press conference yesterday in Ilorin, state yesterday, the family, led by Prince Saka Adebayo Keji, said the fact that the Anilelerin Ruling House indicated willingness to file an appeal at the Supreme Court had not signified an indication that the subsisting court order had been vacated.

The Court of Appeal on July 9, 2013 ruled that the selection, appointment and installation of Oba Mufutau Gbadamosi Esuwoye of Anilelerin Ruling House by the government and the kingmakers was wrong and ordered that Abdulrauf Keji of Olugbense Ruling House should be appointed and installed in his place forthwith.

Speaking at the press briefing yesterday, Prince Saka Keji said: "The judgement of the court that it was the turn of Olugbense Ruling House to fill the vacant stool of Oloffa of Offa after the demise of Oba Olawore Olanipekun in 2010 has put the Oloffa chieftaincy status in the right perspective."

He denied the rumour that his family had agreed to some overtures to "allow sleeping dog to lie and allow perfidy to continue," adding that the "family does not wish to sell its birthright."

Prince Keji said: "At this juncture, we want to passionately appeal to the state government to immediately enforce the Court of Appeal judgement by installing Prince Adegboyega Keji as the new Oloffa of Offa in the interest of peace, justice, fairness, equity and adherence to the principle of the rule of law."
