Man in court for defrauding UNILAG student

A 35-year-old man, Ibrahim Babatunde, has been arraigned before the Sabo Magistrate's Court for allegedly defrauding a student of the University of Lagos while promising to get her a bed space in the institution's hostel.

The student, Olajumoke Umar, a new student of the university,   wanted the accommodation because of examination pressure.

The defendant promised to assist her get a bed space if she could pay N51,000.

After payment was made, Umar was not given the accommodation which led to the arrest of the defendant.

The charge read in part, "That you, Ibrahim Babatunde,m, on the 25th day of January,2013 at University of Lagos, Akoka in the Yaba Magisterial District did obtain the sum of fifty-one Thousand Naira (N51,000) from one Olajumoke Umar, f, with pretence to procure her a bed space in one of the female hostels in the university campus and failed to do so, which representation you know to be false."

Babatunde said he was not guilty of the charges.

The magistrate, Mrs. Folarin Williams, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N20,000.
