Fredokiss
After a successful debut album titled Kunditcha Fredo, urban music artist Penjani Kalua, nicknamed Fredokiss, has landed a one-year record and promotion deal with South Africa's South Wood Entertainment Company.
Confirming the deal via e-mail, South Wood's managing director Mavis Ngoma said she fell in love with Kalua's music the first time he listened to it.
"We share a common goal and vision as an industry. We plan to provide a full package for him. We will organise appearance performances and corporate sponsorships. We plan to renew our contract with him indefinitely as we have a very long-term plan with him," said Ngoma.
He said the company will, among other things, market and expose Fredokiss' talent.
The artist is currently working on his second album.
Responding to the news, Kalua was ecstatic and said the development will nurture and grow his music career.
"It is great news to Malawian music. We cannot say that Malawi music is growing if its scope is within the bounds of the country. We need to move our music to international standards. I look at this deal as a door opening for Malawi internationally," he said.
South Wood is a stand-alone company based in Johannesburg and is about a year old. It was formerly a division of another entertainment company called N2T I.T.
Its success include working with Nescafe on an ongoing events management and partnership deals with Samsung virgin SABC.
