Airhiavbere_copyGroup Seeks Dissolution Of ACN Executives

STAKEHOLDERS in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have called on the party's hierarchy to expel Edo State gubernatorial candidate, Charles Airhiavbere, for causing "untold damage" to the "reputation" of the PDP.

This comes as reactions continue to trail Thursday's Supreme Court ruling, in favour of Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole.

The stakeholders, at a press conference in Benin City, Saturday, said Airhiavbere's decision to contest the result of the gubernatorial election in the state at the tribunal, against the decision of the party's hierarchy, has damaged PDP's reputation.

The group's spokesman, Aisulimhen Ighodaro, said: "The ill-advised decision of our candidate in the July 14 election, Maj-Gen Charles Airhiavbere, to go to court against the party's advise has done untold damage to our reputation.

"His unilateral decision, which was at variance with that of the party at the national and the state levels is not only curious. It also shows that Airhiavbere is not a party man; he holds the PDP in contempt, and is on a personal voyage to fulfill his inordinate ambition.

"It is our opinion that Charles Airhiavbere be immediately expelled from our great party, the PDP, to serve as a deterrence to others, and show to the world that ours is a disciplined party.

"If a party man decides to jettison the decision of the party on the issue of legal disputation of the last election, it goes to confirm that the candidate's ambition overrides that of the party."

Meanwhile, a group within the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in Oyo State has called for the dissolution of party executives beginning from ward to state levels.

The aggrieved group, under the aegis of ACN Integrity Parliament, threatened to form a parallel executive if national leaders of the party ignore its call.

In a communiqué issued at the end of its meeting, the group passed a vote of no confidence on the current party executives, led by state chairman, Chief Akin Oke, describing their emergence as product of sentiments rather than reason.

Those who signed the communiqué include Chief Adebisi Busari (chairman); Chief Ayo Eniade; Chief Lasisi Ayankojo; Chief J.A Adewale; Chief Bisi Akande; Alhaja Ramota Balogun; Mr Muritala Ahmed; Joseph Ogunremi and Chief Kunle Sanda, among others.

The group asked the executives to stop parading themselves as party officers because their selection was "a one-man show," adding that Oke's leadership has failed to unite the fragmented party.

The group urged the national executive leaders of the party to, as a matter of urgency, put in place a steering committee to run the party machinery, preparatory to conduct of "open democratic congress."
