NO fewer than seven persons have been reportedly killed in auto crashes in Oyo and Jigawa states.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, an accident, which occurred in the early hours of Thursday on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, claimed three lives and injured 12.
Meanwhile, four persons were said to have lost their lives in a canoe accident in Kirikasamma Local Government, Jigawa State.
A Lagos-bound Hiace bus coming from Osogbo, Osun State, was said to have lost control in the front of Guru Maharaji village close to Ibadan, Oyo State, killing three persons.
Federal Road Safety Corps Sector Commander in the state, Mr. Godwin Ogagaoghene, who confirmed the incident, said the vehicle with plate number Lagos YB 65 MUS was conveying 15 passengers.
Ogagaoghene said two male passengers and the driver died on the spot while two females and 10 males sustained injuries.
He attributed the cause of the accident to "overspeeding".
"The corpses of those who died have been deposited at the University College Hospital morgue and relatives of the victims have been advised to go there to identify their folks,'' he said.
He said N360,275 belonging to the victims was recovered from the scene of the crash.
The Jigawa accident was said to have occurred when a wooden canoe conveying nine passengers capsized at Hadejia River after colliding with a bigger canoe moving in the opposite direction.
An eyewitness, Hadi Musa, said five persons were rescued by local divers, while the bodies of four others were discovered several hours after the accident.
Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Abdu Jinjiri, confirmed the incident.
Jinjiri said those killed included a three-year-old boy, adding that investigation was still in progress to ascertain the cause of the crash.
