Three customers of First Bank of Nigeria Plc on Thursday emerged winners of Peugeot 307 saloon cars under the bank's 'Save and Excel Promo' for the last quarter of 2012.

In a grand finale draw held in Calabar, Cross River State, Mr. Umaru Marafa from Gombe branch, and Mr. Ayoola Amos from Ibadan main branch as well as Mr. ThankGod Chibueze of Nkpor branch in Onitsha, emerged winners in an electronic draw for the car category.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Head Consumer Banking Products of First Bank of Nig Plc, Mrs. Funke Smith, said that the promo was to reward the customers of the bank.

"It is meant to reward our customers for keeping fate with us," she said.

Smith said that this was not the first promo that the bank was carrying out, adding that they were aimed at saying 'thank you' to the customers for banking with first bank.

According to her, the bank was rewarding 184 customers quarterly under the promo, and 187 for the grand finale.

"Today 187 customers of the bank will go home with various prizes including motor cars, home theatre, plasma television and deep freezers. Cash prizes are also going to be given out," he said.

Smith further said that there was no special consideration in the selection of winners as it was meant for all customers operating savings account, who maintain at least N20, 000 in their account for thirty days.

She said that some past winners of save and excel promo were privileged to travel to the 2012 London Olympics, adding that although this was the grand finale "it is not the last promo to come from first bank.''

"First bank will continue to encourage her customers through various means to reward our customers," she said.

Smith said that the bank decided to hold the grand finale in Calabar as part of their solidarity to the Calabar Carnival.

One of the past of winners of Peugeot 307 car, Col. Ferdinand Ekpo-Mbang (retd) said that he was surprised when he was informed of the prize and thanked the bank for the gesture.

But in his reaction, a current winner, Mr. Ayoola Amos, who was contacted on the telephone, described the news initially as `419'.

"What kind of 419 is that? Where can I see you? That's fine," he exclaimed.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Finance in Cross River State, Mr. Etim Caiafas, thanked the bank for choosing Calabar as the venue for the event.

He said that the state was fast becoming the preferred destination for such event.

Caiafas said there was the need for people to continue to bank with first bank, adding that the bank is trying to encourage the culture of saving by Nigerians.
