TOP management personnel and other senior workers of the Nigerian Railway Corporation have met to fashion out workable strategies for achieving the objectives of repositioning and modernising the transport mode.

They met at a three-day retreat in Ibeju Lekki, Lagos.

Speaking at the opening of the retreat on Friday, the Managing Director, NRC, Mr. Seyi Sijuwade, said the programme was based on the Federal Government's decision to reform and rebrand the corporation to a world-class organisation.

Sijuwade stressed the importance of addressing the basic objectives of NRC in a result-oriented manner through transformational leadership.

He spoke on the theme, 'Internalising our corporate vision and bringing back the good old days…back on the track'.

He also explained that immense efforts had been taken to reposition and upgrade the human capital development of the corporation through intensive training and retraining of personnel.

Sijuwade pointed out that the status of the NRC had improved significantly from its comatose state to that of functional rail system through the availability of modern technological equipment and better budget finance for its operations.

He further listed projects embarked upon by the corporation through the intervention of the Federal Government as the complete rehabilitation of Lagos to Jebba rail track axis, Jebba- Kano rail track now at a near completion state and the ongoing works on the Port Harcourt- Makurdi rail line, among others.

He said, "There is need for total participation of everyone in the ongoing railway reform/rehabilitation project. We all need to focus on this assignment on hand and drive it to the end in order for NRC to occupy her rightful place in the socio-economic and technological development of our country.

"Proper and adequate attention has to be paid to issues that have plagued the corporation for many years in the past."
