NFF congress kicks off in Port Harcourt

The 2012 Annual General Congress of the Nigeria Football Federation will hold in Port Harcourt on Thursday. The congress will have in attendance the chairmen of the 36 state football associations as well as top officials of the NFF.

By Wednesday, the city had come alive with the arrival of delegates.

NFF President Aminu Maigari confirmed that the big gathering will take place at the Banquet Hall of Hotel Presidential in the Garden City, starting from 10am.

Chairmen and Secretaries of the Football Associations of the 36 States and the FCT, as well as Chairmen and Secretaries of the Leagues, Coaches Association, Referees Association and Players' Union, have also arrived.

A 90-minute opening ceremony will be followed by the General Assembly's deliberations on various issues, which will be followed by the reading of the communiqué. This year's Charity Shield game, between league winners Kano Pillars and Federation Cup champions Heartland will start at 4pm at the Sharks Stadium as part of the event.

The national football gathering will deliberate on many issues concerning the administration of the game in Nigeria with one of such being the report from the congress of the Nigeria Premier League which was held in Abuja on Tuesday.

 That congress dissolved the board headed by Victor Baribote and also fixed the kick off date for the league at February 18.
