Flag Officer Commanding, Eastern Naval Command, Rear Admiral Olufemi Ogunjimi, has promised to enforce internal disciplinary measures against personnel who contravene traffic regulations.
Ogunjimi's promise comes on the heels of the complaints by the Zonal Commanding Officer, Federal Road Safety Corps, RS6.0, Mr. Yakubu Attah, that military personnel flout traffic rules.
Attah, alongside the Sector Commander of FRSC in Cross River State, Mr. Yusuf Salami, and other officials of the commission stated this on Wednesday when they visited the FOC at Eastern Naval Command in Calabar.
Attah also pleaded with the military and members of public to respect special marshals, saying they have equal powers as regular marshals.
He said, "Special marshals have equal powers as we do; sometimes they face more challenges, especially when they confront uniform men who contravene traffic rules."
Attah said it was imperative to obey traffic rules, especially during the Yuletide to reduce carnage on the roads.
Responding Ogunjimi said, "We promise to educate our officers and ratings on the use of seat belts. We will start enforcing compulsory seat belt use to enter all our bases. Anywhere our men contravene traffic regulation, just get the vehicle registration number and forward it to us for disciplinary action."
