ACF wants recent blasts probed
AS northern leaders brainstorm on how to reposition the region for future leadership role in the country, former Head of State, Gen. Abubakar Abdulsalami Thursday said that it would take the zone 20 years to rediscover itself following security challenges and lack of unity among the leaders.
Besides, the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) also met Thursday, calling the Federal Government to probe the recent increased attacks on military formations, with the aim of arresting the level of insecurity in the country.
Speaking with journalists shortly after chairing a session on "security, politics and economy of the North," on the second day of the Arewa House Conference on "The North and Strategies for Sustainable Development," Abubakar said the essence of the conference was to seek unity among the people and reclaim the lost glory of the North.
He also urged the people to help government solve the security challenges in the region, stressing that everyone must act as watchdog of the country and his immediate environment.
A statement by the ACF's National Publicity Secretary, Anthony Sani, said that the Forum "considered the recent killings of prominent northerners by gunmen and particularly the allegations and controversies surrounding the killing of Gen Muhammed Shuwa." All these have been very disturbing especially in view of the fact that nothing has been done to bring the perpetrators of the dastardly act to book."
Sani further stated that the ACF was also disturbed by the trend of explosions "in the nation's security establishments most recent of which occurred at the Jaji military cantonment," pointing out that "such trend should not be allowed to continue."
